Jora stresses the need for revival of Marble industry

Srinagar, June 03: Minister for Industries and Commerce Nawang Rigzin Jora has said that government was contemplating to revive the functioning of Marble Industries in the state adding that the industry was fetching a good income to the state.
This he said while interacting with the representatives of Marble Industries Association Kupwara who called on the Minister here on Tuesday to put forth their demands and problems for revival of this industry which has badly got affected due to turmoil.The deputationists demanded for extension of lease for existing Marble units.
The Minister gave patient hearing to the deputationists and assured that government would take all necessary steps for re-functioning of these units and would provide all possible assistance to the industrialists for the revival of Marble industry adding this industry was beneficial for boosting economy of the state.
Later, a deputation of Sport Goods Manufacturing Association called on the Minister. The deputationists presented a charter of demands which include proper imposition of ban on export of Kashmir Willow Clefts, cricket bat willow wood and checking on trafficking of willow wood to peeling units. They also demanded for de-registration of joinery units which do not have rib-shaw and imposition of proper tax on export of semi-finished willow products.
Among others, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Pawan Kotwal, Director Industries Kashmir Farooq Ahmed, Managing Director SICOP Raman Soni and other senior officers of the department were present on the occasion.
