The Fall 2008 Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference opens at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Thursday, September 18, and runs through Saturday, September 20. The Conference will include over 65 seminars, workshops and tours focusing on the historic preservation and new construction of commercial, institutional and public buildings, as well as residences in styles ranging from Colonial, Greek Revival and Arts and Crafts to Modernist.
This Conference will also include three keynote addresses: Michael Lykoudis, dean of the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, will deliver “Building in a Time of Global Warming: Principles of Architecture and Urbanism for the 21st Century” on Thursday at 12 noon; Donovan Rypkema, principal of Place Economics in Washington, DC, will deliver “Responsible, Sustainable, and Profitable: Why We Matter in Today’s Economic Climate” on Thursday at 5:30; and architect and author Russell Versaci will discuss Roots of Home: Our Journey to a New Old House on Friday at 5:30.
The Conference (Thursday through Saturday) offers up to 18 continuing-education credits, while the Exhibition (Friday and Saturday) will showcase historically accurate products from hundreds of suppliers and manufacturers.
