Canadian Building Slows in Sept. But Remains High (November 2007)
Unknown Apr 18,2008

CANADA(Ottawa) -- Building permit value slightly declined in September but is still more than $6 billion, according to Statistics Canada.
Residential gains were offset by non-residential construction declines, the
Toronto Star reported Tuesday. In the third quarter, total building permit value was down 4.1 percent from the second quarter; it was, however, still Canada's highest quarterly level on record.
Canadian municipalities issued building permits worth $6.2 billion in September, down from $6.3 billion in August and the May/June high of $6.9 billion.
Residential permits were up 2.6 percent to $4 billion following a five-month steady increase in single-family home approvals.
"This strength during recent months indicates that construction sites should remain busy in the coming months," Statistics Canada said.  (
