Cardoso Stone is sandstone with the typical dark ash-grey colour verging on deep blue and white veined. The physical and chemical properties of Cardoso Stone make it very suitable in many construction fields.
Cardoso Stone is a rock with low metamorphism grade, typical of sandstone, formed by the fragmentation of the granitic composition. Due to the minerals forming this type of rock, Cardoso Stone has a remarkable compactness and toughness.
The physical-mechanical characteristics show a good resistance to attrition, sliding and tension as well as high resistance to corrosion by atmospheric agents. All this makes Cardoso Stone an ideal material suitable in many applications.
Cardoso Stone is widely used in architecture to produce floorings, steps, thresholds and windows-sills and to manufacture ornamental elements such as frames, capitals, fireplaces and many other objects.
Cardoso Stone finds wide space both for interiors and exteriors as well as in the urban context.
For interiors it is mainly used for stairs, fireplaces, counter-tops and skirting.
For exteriors it finds its most applications in paving courtyards, paths, for cladding as well as to make fountains and swimming-pools borders.
Cardoso Stone has been quarried since ancient times in the upper area of Versilia, in the massive range of the Apuan Alps, near the village from which it takes the name.
