Schoenbrunner Sandstein
The fine-grained "white Main sandstone" from the Triassic period (Coburger Bausandstein) is extracted from the Sch?nbrunn Quarry in the Hassberge administrative district of Bavaria. Thanks to the favourable geological conditions at this site, dimensional stones measuring up to 8 m3 can be produced. Sch?nbrunn sandstone is particularly well suited for natural stone facades, and was used, for example, for the Federal Chancellory in Berlin in 2001.
Many historic buildings in the region of Bamberg and Coburg are built of "white Main sandstone". Sch?nbrunn sandstone is highly valued in the conservation of historic monuments because of its even structure and texture.
