Marble surfaces should be cleaned with soft cotton cloths and clean rag mops along with neutral cleaners, mild liquid dishwashing detergent mixed with water, or stone cleaners. If you want to go the easy route, try a commercially available stone cleaner.

Although we might think of marble as the stereotypically superior flooring material, when it comes to durability, granite is actually more durable! Because marble is more porous and softer than granite, keep it to your rarely used, formal areas, while durable, functional granite can be used nearly anywhere in your home!

Avoid placing toiletry products such as hair products, perfumes, toothpaste, nail products, creams, lotions, and colognes on marble surfaces because they can etch the surface resulting in a ring shape. We recommend using a decorative tray to store these items if you want to leave them displayed.

Dry the marble top with a chamois cloth. Buff it to a shine by rubbing the entire surface with the cloth in small circles. Cover the surface with commercial stone polish or marble-polishing paste if you want more shine after buffing with a chamois. If using a spray-on stone polish, wipe with a soft rag.

Since marble is softer than other natural stones, such as granite, it is more susceptible to staining from cooking and spills. In addition, spots result from water splashing around the sink. If not wiped up immediately, water spots and hard water accumulations occur, leaving unsightly stains.

Although marble is a beautiful and durable stone surface for countertops, it takes extra care for cleaning and maintenance. Marble is softer and more porous than granite and as a result, you may see more scratches, pitting, cracks, stains, and even dulling of the shine.

Urine can both "etch" and "stain" marble, limestone, and travertine tile. This is true whether it is dog urine, cat pee, or human urine. Urine is acidic and usually has a yellow color. The acids will etch the marble and the yellow color will cause a stain.

Sprinkle a little baking soda onto the surface of the marble. Gently rub the baking soda into the marble with a soft, damp cloth. You do not want to scrub because that can damage the surface. Then rinse with water and dry with a soft towel.

Does marble crack in cold weather?

Marble Tiles can crack if they're exposed to very cold temperatures. While marble typically holds up well against cold temperatures, moisture is an issue for this porous stone. For example, if snow covers a marble slab for a long time, the moisture may eventually make its way into the stone and cause it to crack.
