Company Description
Woodkirk Yorkstone has been quarried at Britannia Quarries in Leeds, West Yorkshire since 1840. It is a fine grained, carboniferous sandstone ideal for use as paving, on masonry projects and for walling.
We describe our York Stone as a grey buff stone which over time weathers to the classic buff/brown colour that the quarry is renowned for, but when freshly quarried the colours may be more pronounced. The colours generally vary from predominantly brown through to a grey/buff and grey/blue, some stones display swirls and banding. These are natural features of the stone and not defects.
Because of Woodkirk Stone’s handsome appearance, versatility and durability, it can be used in all types of applications from housing and industrial contracts to restoration and prestigious town centre developments; all of which can be viewed in our projects section.
Over recent years and to satisfy customer demand and we have begun to offer a number of other stones which we promote under the Farrar brand. These have been sourced for their technical specifications, longevity and suitability for the market place.
Our Farrar Hard York is a fine grained, hard wearing sandstone whose colour is 80 – 85% blue/grey and 20 – 15% buff. It’s extremely durable with good weathering properties which make it ideal for commercial hard landscaping projects as well as smaller residential projects. Recent projects include the Guildhall and Dickens Yard, Ealing.
Farrar Limestone is an Ancaster limestone quarried at Glebe Quarry, Lincolnshire and is available in a Hard White, which is a creamy white in colour or Weatherbed, which is beige and blue in colour. It can be used for all aspects of masonry work including new build and restoration as well as for internal work and flooring.  It is a widely known limestone and has been used on buildings for many years; the earliest known use is 1920.
Over the years Farrar Limestone has been used for many high profile projects including; Lincoln Cathedral, Newark Castle, Kings College, Cambridge and Stoke Rochford Hall.
