Officially founded in 1969, the story of SOLANCIS first began in the 1900s, when extraction and transformation was made using only saws and levers. Today we use cutting edge technology and innovative methods.

We have developed strategic partnerships which allow us to choose the raw material with precision, optimize the existing resources and increase production, without ever losing sight of the sustainability and quality of the finished product.

The quality of our products owes a great deal to the excellent raw material with which we work. The SOLANCIS quarries are situated in the most important limestone formation repository in existence in Portugal the Maciço Calcário Estremenho. The area is 800km of limestone formation in the centre of Portugal, around 90km from Lisbon and 30km from the sea.

Due to its formation in a marine environment, the limestone coming out of the MCE has unique characteristics. Fossils constitute one of the features of this natural stone, originating in exclusive pieces. Resistance, versatility, durability and beauty are intrinsic attributed of this stone.

More than 90 per cent of our product is destined for export. Our product is present in the Parque das Nações and the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, in the Petit Palais Museum and the stairs at the Louvre in Paris. Our product can also be found in various shops belong to the Hermes and Louis Vuitton brands, as well as in various private residences we have built in the USA, South Africa, Russia and Middle East, amongst others.

Our endeavours have gained recognition. In the last two decades the company has been presented with some notable awards, amongst which the Prestigious Company Award (1994 and 1995), the SME of Excellence Award (1998 to 2001) and the SME Leader Award (2009, 2010, 2011), all awarded by IAPMEI.
