Schoenbacher Sandstone
The fine-grained "white Main sandstone" from the Triassic period (Coburger Bausandstein) is extracted from the Schönbach Quarry in the Hassberge district of Bavaria. Thanks to the favourable geological conditions here, it is possible to produce dimensional stones measuring up to 8 m³. Schönbach sandstone is particularly well suited as a natural stone cladding for facades.
Many historic buildings in the region of Bamberg and Coburg are built of "white Main sandstone". Schönbach sandstone is highly valued in the conservation of historic monuments because of its excellent technical properties and its characteristic texture.
