1ReplyAlthough we might think of marble as the stereotypically superior flooring material, when it comes to durability, granite is actually more durable! Because marble is more porous and softer than granite, keep it to your rarely used, formal areas, while durable, functional granite can be used nearly anywhere in your home!

How do you make old marble shine again?
Posted by Visitor
Reply to this question
1ReplyDry the marble top with a chamois cloth. Buff it to a shine by rubbing the entire surface with the cloth in small circles. Cover the surface with commercial stone polish or marble-polishing paste if you want more shine after buffing with a chamois. If using a spray-on stone polish, wipe with a soft rag.

Reply to this question
1ReplySince marble is softer than other natural stones, such as granite, it is more susceptible to staining from cooking and spills. In addition, spots result from water splashing around the sink. If not wiped up immediately, water spots and hard water accumulations occur, leaving unsightly stains.

1ReplyUrine can both "etch" and "stain" marble, limestone, and travertine tile. This is true whether it is dog urine, cat pee, or human urine. Urine is acidic and usually has a yellow color. The acids will etch the marble and the yellow color will cause a stain.

Does marble crack in cold weather?
Posted by Visitor
Reply to this question
1ReplyMarble Tiles can crack if they're exposed to very cold temperatures. While marble typically holds up well against cold temperatures, moisture is an issue for this porous stone. For example, if snow covers a marble slab for a long time, the moisture may eventually make its way into the stone and cause it to crack.
