The main difference between basalt and rhyolite is that basalt usually appears in dark colours, while rhyolite usually appears in light colours. Both rhyolite and basalt are types of igneous rocks. Rhyolite is considered as an extrusive volcanic rock that is equivalent to granite.

The difference between them is that rhyolite is an intrusive igneous rock whereas granite is an extrusive igneous rock. Rhyolite and Granite are the most common types of acidic rock. They have similar compositions. Granite is formed when magma cools down deep inside the earth crust.
