As early as 1955, Hans Sebald founded the family company Sebald together with his sons Bruno and Josef, which specialized in the production of grinding wheels.
Initially, abrasives were made for working stone. The breakthrough came with the invention and patent of the SF approach in 1958. Then Josef Sebald developed the first synthetic binding called Polypora. Bakelite synthetic resin bond was introduced in the early 1960s. At the same time, the company began manufacturing grinding wheels for machining spring ends. In 1966 one of the oldest grinding wheel factories in Germany, the Beckmann company in Solingen, was acquired. It was now also possible to manufacture and offer the complete range of metalworking products. Today, Sebald produces grinding media and discs in all types of bond for almost every imaginable grinding application.
Hans-Peter Sebald has been running the company since 1991, and Barbara Sebald since 1995, together with an experienced management team.
With the acquisition of Berg und Schmid GmbH in Remseck (2007), machines are now also developed and sold.
A subsidiary of Sebald Abrasive (Kunshan) Ltd. in China is responsible for the Chinese market.
Since it was founded, Sebald & Söhne has developed into a company that markets its products and services for the stone and construction industry as well as for the metalworking industry worldwide.
