Mertika Marble LTD was established in 1978, with a Subsidiary Company Kouros Ltd. in 1997. It owns two quarries, one is the “White Marble Panagias SA” quarry licensed in 1985, total area covered 500,000 square meters, and the other one is the “Imathia-Kastania” quarry licensed in 2008, total area covered 400,000 square meters with exclusiveness in Apollo marble. The quarries that belong to the Mertika Marble Group produce White and Semi White marble. They are located in Northern Greece, which is the most productive area in extraction of white marble worldwide. The Imathia-Kastania quarry produces the WHITE APOLLO MARBLE, which in terms of petrographic characteristics, purity, consistency, breakage, friction and resistance is one of the finest Greek marble comparable to the ancient Pentelic Stone. According to the IGME data the WHITE APOLLO MARBLE has the lowest rate of absorption-soak, great resistance to compression, tension and abrasion. These properties combined with the specific weight and the excellent aesthetic appearance of APOLLO MARBLE make it perfect for applications in architecture, interior design, design of furniture and artistic objects, as well as, for any indoor or outdoor usage that requires a material full of beauty, vitality and durability over time. The excavation of APOLLO WHITE MARBLE has started more than 50 years ago. The specific quarry belongs to the Mertika Marble Group since 2008 which has its exclusive exploitation. Today the excavation takes place in terrestrial mining marble, but in the near future it’s in our plans the creation of two underground marble (using the procedure of camper with poles).
