San Marco Design Center creates custom reeditions of surfaces from 2000 years of Italian history. The Los Angeles based company employs expert artisans and artists to handwork authentic materials into floors, wall coverings, countertops and a very select line of tables and consoles. Paving designs from Imperial Rome -- Hadrian's Villa at Tivoli and the summer residences of the rich and famous at Ostia Antica- live again in rare, richly colored marbles with magical names like "Antique Yellow of Numidia," "Verde Majus," "Breccia Antica." Mosaic Artists, cutting marble tesserae by hand, create running borders as well as large scale installations such as San Marco Design Center's 200+ sq.ft. Floor for a "Winter Garden." The completed mosaic was shipped in sections from the artist's Italian bottega and installed on site. The vaulted ceiling of the Early Christian church of Santa Costanza in Rome inspired the design. San Marco Design Center's artists meticulously recreate the worn undulations of intricately patterned Medieval Cosmati floors from sites such as St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice. Homeowners who yearn for the lasting in the new millennium are installing San Marco Design Center's handmade terracotta floors in patterns, colors and natural finishes derived from the patrician palazzi of Renaissance Rome and Florence. We have developed a weathered antique marble called Patinato which reveals the natural color and warmth of marble. We can provide other stone such as Travertino Spacco Romano and Verde Alpino to provide the authuenticity of Italian villa exterior and interior paving.
