Terra Di Siena Sandstone
Pale yellow uniform sandstone with fine to very fine grain and partial orientation of constituent granules.
It is a porous rock whose interstices between the granules are not completely occupied by carbonatic concrete. It is predominantly formed by fragments of carbonatic algal, foraminifera shells, echinoderms and by micro crystalline calcite. Less frequent are quartz, feldspars and fragments of magmatic and metamorphic rock.
According to the petrographical study and the NCE-CE-CI Zuffa diagram (1980), Giallo terra di Siena is classified as calcarenite.
