    The market is continuously flooded with new materials that widen end consumer options; but exploiting the possibilities they offer also requires new production technologies and/or strategies to machine them efficiently and create different and more sophisticated flooring, furniture and covering.

    New materials typically stand out for features such as bigger sizes and reduced thicknesses, but also higher hardness, which often comes with brittleness.

    With the input from Stratos, an important company based in Sassuolo taking care of superficial finish and cut-to-length operations with large ceramic slabs, Breton developed HURACAN, a new automatic cutting and chamfering line.

    The machine is equipped with optical systems that read the perimeter and the surface defects of the slabs to be cut, and with a sophisticated and effective software that optimizes the cutting layout to minimize waste.

    Cutting optimization is enabled by a set of lifting suction cups that move the workpieces to the machine table to perform the programmed cutting pattern.

    The Huracan machine is offered in several versions:

    from 3 to 7 cutting spindles;

    may be mounted on steel columns or on concrete basement;

    may be equipped with automatic tool diameter control;

    may be equipped with pre-machined slab aligners to ensure their square positioning.

    Pre-machined slabs are, for example, perimetertrimmed ceramic slabs (on which a few centimeters have been removed from the perimeter all around the slab to relieve internal stresses from the material) stored while waiting for subsequent final machining with optimization cycle or else.

    One of the most advanced new solutions, also available on request, is the option to carry out chamfering on the sharp workpiece edge while still in the machine.

    Special chamfering spindles are used mounted in front of the cutting spindle, which carry out a slight chamfer before the final cut with the main rear spindle.

    There two alternative solutions:

    a low-torque chamfering spindle that carries out chamfering on low thicknesses;

    a high-torque chamfering spindle that carries out a slight chamfering and also a deep pre-cut down to the material core.

    Breton Multicut is a programmable multi-spindle automatic saw with a revolving worktable and is designed for cutting both natural and engineered stone slabs to any required size.

    Breton Multicut is designed and developed to offer high-production and cutting performance combined with improved operational flexibility and a sophisticated and advanced slab optimisation system.

    MACHINE FUNCTIONS

    The work cycle - longitudinal cuts, work-table rotation, transversal cuts - is fully automatic and computer managed. Slab loading and product unloading operations can be automated to meet specific requirements. Precise and accurate cutting.

    The work cycles are programmed on the machine monitor and can be stored and then recalled whenever required. Depending on slab thickness, the slab can be cut in plunge-cut or step-cut mode.

    The “scanner” system scans the shape of the slab and records surface defects, and a special software elaborates and defines the best cutting cycle based on the slabs available and work orders programmed in the system. The result is maximum production optimisation.

    SLAB SURFACE OPTIMISATION SYSTEM

    Breton Multicut can in real time optimise slab surface by automatically selecting the most appropriate cutting cycle to process the work orders previously programmed in the computer system which controls and manages the production line.

    When slabs are fed-into Breton Multicut, a scanner scans the shape and size of the slabs and the operator can mark out any defects, holes or cracks in the surface. Based on the information transmitted by the scanner and on the programmed work orders, a purposely developed software manages the machines and equipment forming the production line simultaneously.

    This software can also receive work orders through a local access network from the office PC. The work order can include diverse formats of tiles which are identified in the order utilising just the measurements for length and width. For each format the required quantity is defined and is automatically updated based on the number of cutting cycles for each slab processed until the order is completed. Slab cutting, based on the information received from the scanner, is optimised to reduce waste. Even slabs with surface defects such as holes, stains, marks etc. are optimised using this system.

    The scanner records the defects of the slabs and sends prompts to the software only if the defects have been previously marked out by the operator who simply positions over the defect (whether it is a hole, stain, crack etc…) a piece of non-reflecting matt material (e.g. standard household carpet). When the slab passes under the scanner, the scanner reads the covered areas as if part of the slab is missing identifying these zones as part/s of the slab which cannot be utilised in production.

    Prompts are then sent to the main system PC and the software elaborates the information and defines the best cycle to optimise production. The operator removes the material used to cover the defects which can be reused or thrown away. The information is then graphically displayed on the monitor indicating the percentage of material processed.

    And the waste produced….. There are several cutting and optimisation options: For sawing strips (longitudinal or transversal or mixed) the system will automatically standardize the cutting pattern so as to reduce the machine’s cycle time for very complex cutting patterns. This function brings together, where possible, strips having the same cuts so that they can be sawn in a single work cycle.

    The ideal cutting line to achieve a high production capacity when plunge-cutting granite and marble slabs. This line consists of two cutting machines positioned in sequence, our Multibreton AC longitudinal saw and our Multibreton AD crosscutting saw, which simultaneously cut different slabs guaranteeing a high production capacity.

    Depending on the size of the slab to cut and production requirements, it is possible to vary the number of cutting spindles fitted on both cutters. The cutting line production cycle can be programmed and completely automatic. The machines are equipped with control panels provided with colour “touch-screen” monitors and technologically advanced software featuring a fast and intuitive operator-machine interface. Upon request this cutting line can be supplied with a software option for optimising cutting operations.

    MULTI-BLADE LONGITUDINAL SAW

    The Multibreton AC cuts the slab which travels on the conveyor belt mounted on side guides, whereas the cutting spindles rigidly locked to the beam remain in a fixed position. This cutting system ensures an almost perfect parallelism of the single cuts, a machining necessity when cutting rightangled workpieces.

    CROSS-CUTTING SAW

    The Multibreton AD cuts the slab as the spindle holding beam advances at a right-angle to the conveyor belt. The beam travels at a perfect right angle on guides enclosed in an oil bath and protected by a labyrinth seal casing. Beam motion is controlled by a variable speed motor and two ball screw assemblies coupled to ball nuts mounted to the two supporting frames of the beam.

    A shaft coupled to the angle reduction units ensures the ball screw assemblies are synchronised. A mobile aligner for squaring up the strips before cutting is installed at the front end of the machine opposite the spindle-holding beam.

    The aligner travels on roller bearings and is driven by pneumatic cylinders and two rack-pinion couplings which ensure synchronised movement. This system guarantees an almost perfect geometry of rightangled workpieces.

    The cutting units are technically and mechanically advanced and rigidly fixed to purposely designed slides which ensure accurate and precise vertical and transverse travel.

    The longitudinal saw, Multibreton AC, mounts a conveyor belt which moves on side guides for cutting operations, whereas for cross-cutting the spindle units on the Multibreton AD are mounted on a moving beam.

    The multi-belt conveyors which travel on the milled steel surface of the workbench have a thick rubber coating designed to be subjected to abrasions caused by the diamond disks when cutting. The diamond disks are enclosed in special noise absorbing protective casings which also ensure ideal tool ,coolant feeding.

    The ideal cutting line to achieve a high production capacity when plunge-cutting granite and marble thick slabs (6 cm granite - 8 cm marble). This line consists of two cutting machines positioned in sequence, our Multibreton ACS longitudinal saw and our Multibreton ADS cross-cutting saw, which simultaneously cut different slabs guaranteeing a high production capacity.

    Depending on the size of the slab to cut and production requirements, it is possible to vary the number of cutting spindles fitted on both cutters. The cutting line production cycle can be programmed and completely automatic.

    The machines are equipped with control panels provided with colour “touch-screen” monitors and technologically advanced software featuring a fast and intuitive operator-machine interface. Upon request this cutting line can be supplied with a software option for optimising cutting operations.

    MULTI-BLADE LONGITUDINAL SAW

    The Multibreton ACS cuts the slab which travels on the conveyor belt mounted on side guides, whereas the cutting spindles rigidly locked to the beam remain in a fixed position.

    This cutting system ensures an almost perfect parallelism of the single cuts, a machining necessity when cutting rightangled workpieces.

    CROSS-CUTTING SAW

    The Multibreton ADS cuts the slab as the spindle holding beam advances at a right-angle to the conveyor belt. The beam travels at a perfect right angle on guides enclosed in an oil bath and protected by a labyrinth seal casing.

    Beam motion is controlled by a variable speed motor and two ball screw assemblies coupled to ball nuts mounted to the two supporting frames of the beam. A shaft coupled to the angle reduction units ensures the ball screw assemblies are synchronised.

    A mobile aligner for squaring up the strips before cutting is installed at the front end of the machine opposite the spindle-holding beam.

    The aligner travels on roller bearings and is driven by pneumatic cylinders and two rack-pinion couplings which ensure synchronised movement. This system guarantees an almost perfect geometry of right-angled workpieces.

    This machine is composed of bridge stank, upper transmission unit,left and right moving mechanism, vertical arm, left and right side beam, block delivery trolley truck, and so on. The brief introduction to them as follows.The bridge stand is composed of bridge stand, sliding plates, spanning rack, fixing bush andhorizontal cutting, and so on. The cast bridge stand is supported by the rolling rail at the bottom end against right and left side beams. At its top, there is twin—V guides rail to act with sliding plate, guard is fitted over the guide rail to prevent dust intruding. The spanning rack is coupled with sliding plate, horizontal cutting tool is fitted at one side face of the spanning rack whose top is fitted with back bars reduction mechanism;gear;rank and bevel gear reducer;longitudinal moving motor. Vertical cutting tool is fitted at the bottom of bridge stand. When the machine cuts the blocks with vertical blade, the motor of vertical-cutting drives the blade to rotate through belt transmission and the slide plate moves longitudinally under the action of longitudinal moving motor through meshing between gear and rank.
